Mediation

Mediation is a voluntary dispute resolution process where a neutral third person (the "Mediator") meets with the parties, and assists them in reaching a mutually acceptable settlement of their dispute. A mediator will work with both parties to obtain a global resolution of all issues. It is a quick and inexpensive method of settling your legal disputes.

In addition to the financial and emotional savings of mediation, participants are able to fashion their own agreement rather than turning the decision making over to a judge or jury. Mediations that occur during litigation (after one party has filed a lawsuit against another) are often called settlement conferences. Mediators in these sessions are often referred to as settlement masters. You have most undoubtedly heard that most cases settle before going to trial. Settlement conferences are the places many matters settle.
